Tissues - Connective and Epithelial Flashcards
What are the 4 types of tissues?
epithelial, connective, muscle, nervous
What is the function of cartilage ?
shock absorption and protection , cushions joints
What is a tissue?
A group of cells that act together to perform a specific function.
What is the function of epithelial tissue ?
protection, secretion, absorption, lines the body cavities
What is the function of connective tissue ?
Supports the body parts and holds them together
What is the function of nervous tissue ?
send impulses to other areas of the body , coordinates body functions
What is the function of muscle tissue ?
produce movement
What is the function of ciliated epithelial tissue ?
To waft mucus away from the lungs
What is the structure of ciliated epithelial tissue ?
Made up of : basal cells , nucli , tall columnar cells , goblet cells
What is the function of squamous epithelial tissue ?
Lines the inside of blood vessels and alveoli
What is the structure of squamous epithelial tissue ?
Smooth flat cells
contains a basement membrane , cell junction and nucleus
What are the different types of epithelial tissue ?
Simple squamous
Simple cuboidal
Simple columnar
Pseudostratified columnar
What is the function of stratified squamous epithelial tissue ?
Covers surfaces that need physical protection, qwick to regenerate
Describe the structure of stratified squamous epithelial tissue
Thin appearance of flat plates , horizontal flat nucli , made up of multiple layers , found in the mouth , skin and respiratory system
What is the function of simple cuboidal epithelial tissue ?
Secretion and absorption
Describe the structure of simple cuboidal epithelial tissue
Single layer of cube like cells , large spherical nuclei , found within the kidney tubules , ducts and secretory portions of small glands and ovary surface
What is the function of simple columnar epithelial tissue ?
Absorption and secretion
Describe the structure of simple columnar epithelial tissue
Single layer of tall cells , oval nuclei , some may be ciliated , non ciliated line digestive tract and gallbladder , clillated line bronchi , uterine tract and uterus
What is the function of Pseudostratified epithelial tissue ?
Makes and secretes mucus , surface transport
Describe the structure of Pseudostratified epithelial tissue ?
Has cilia , looks stratified but isn’t , cells are long and thin , nuclei do not line up , found in bronchi , nasal cavity and ears
What are the general functions of epithelial tissue ?
Absorption , sectreation and protection
What is the function of simple squamous epithelial tissue ?
Allows a passage of materials by diffusion and filtration
Describe the structure of simple squamous epithelial tissue ?
Thin flat plates , elliptical nuclei , found within the kidneys , lining of heart , blood vessels and lymphatic system
What are the 5 types of connective tissue ?
Dense Regular connective tissue
Dense irregular connective tissue
Loose connective tissue
Supporting connective tissue
Fluid connective tissue
