Q

What is the general structure of muscle ?

A

Made up of lots of small fibers , myofibrils , The myofibrils make up groups of muscle fibers that are called myofilaments that overlap one and other to form a whole muscle tissue

Q

What is the difference between fast and slow twitch muscle fibers ?

A

Fast twitch fires quickly with high energy but tires quickly and slow twitch fires slowly and produces energy for a longer period of time

16
Q

What happens during detachment ?

A

ATP binds to myosin head causing myosin and actin to detach . Myosin enters a resting state

17
Q

What happens during hydrolysis ?

A

Atp splits into ADP and phosphate allowing the myosin head to be “ready “ to bind

18
Q

What happens during the cross bridge stage ?

A

Actin and myosin filaments are in the correct position to bind

19
Q

What happens during the power stroke stage ?

A

ADP and phosphate are lost causing myosin to complete a power stroke back to the original position

20
Q

What controls the process of the sliding filament theory ?

A

Action potential causing calcium ions to influx causing actin to expose the myosin binding site .

21
Q

What are the 5 types of bone ?

A

long, short, flat, irregular, sesamoid

22
Q

What are the 5 functions of the skeletal system?

A

support, protection, movement, storage, blood cell formation

23
Q

Describe the structure of bone

A

Made up of collagen and calcium phosphate . Inside of the bone is bone marrow that produces red blood cells.

24
Q

What are the 3 types of joint ?

A

fibrous, cartilaginous, synovial

25
Q

What is a fibrous joint ?

A

immovable joint , connected by dense connective though tissue , found in the skull

26
Q

What is a cartilaginous joint?

A

A joint connected by fibrocartilage or hyaline cartilage . Allows limited movement

27
Q

What is a synovial joint?

A

A joint filled with synovial fluid , moveable joint , has a synovial cavity , bones connected by dense connective tissue , found in elbows and knees

28
Q

Ligaments hold bone to …..

A

Bone

29
Q

Tendons hold …. to bone

A

Muscle

30
Q

Cartilage cushions …… to bone

A

Bone
