Tissues Flashcards
What types of tissue are there?
- Epithelial
- Connective
- Nervous
- Muscle
What are the three different types of connective tissue?
- Loose
- Dense
- Specialised
What are the cells within nervous tissues?
- Gilial cells
- Neurons
What are the three components within a tissue?
- Cells
- Intercellular products
- Fluid
What are the four types of animal tissues?
- Squamous epithelium
- Ciliated epithelium
- Cartilage
- Muscle
What is the role of squamous epithelium?
- Smooth, flattered cells that line the inside of blood vessels and aveoli
What is the role of ciliated epithelium?
- Goblet cells produce mucus and cilia waft mucus away from the lungs
What is the role of cartilage?
- A strong tissue used to make tendons, bones and connective tissue
What is the role of muscle?
- Muscle tissue is made of cells which contract in the same direction
What are three characteristics of a muscle ?
- Elastic
- Arranged in bundles
- Extensible
What are the three main fibres within a connective ?
- Collagen
- Reticular
- Elastic
What are three characteristics of epithelial?
- Highly cellular
- Barriers
- Receptors
What are three characteristics of nervous?
- Highly specialised
- Two types; Neurons and Glia
What is the function of nervous tissue?
- Receiving information from internal and external environments
- Interpreting and analysing information
- Generating new signals conducting to responding tissues
Where is neuromuscular located?
- Between a neuron and muscle tissue
Where is neuroglandular located?
- Between a neuron and a gland
Where are synapses located?
- The gap between two neurons
What are action potentials?
- Neurons send nerve impulses called action potentials. These involved changes to the concentration of sodium (Na+) and potassium (k+) ions across a membrane
What are the different types of muscle tissue?
- Cardiac
- Smooth
- Skeletal
What is the name of the cell that secrete mucus?
- Goblet cells
