Where does Tinea occur?
Occurs on the cutaneous areas of the skin, nails of fingers or toes.
What is Tinea?
Tinea is a fungal infection
What body condition does Tinea affect more?
Phlegm or Damp constitutions
In Western Med, Tinea is caused by?
Fungi invading the cornified component of the skin
What are the etiologies of Tinea in TCM?
Invasion of Wind + Damp-Heat in the skin
What is the shape of Tinea lesions?
Disc-shaped with sharply defined, raised borders, more red on the outside and more clear on the inside of the Tinea
What can continuous scratching result in?
Lichenification
(Skin thickens and becomes leathery)
What other clinical manifestation can appear in Tinea?
Red scaling with itching, blisters and pustules
What are the primary points for treating Tinea?
LI-15: Dispels Wind-Damp + Eliminates wind + Regulates Qi + Blood
PC-3: He-sea + Clears heat from Qi, Ying + Blood Levels
BL-40: Drains Damp-Heat
GB-31: Relieves itching
SP-10: Nourishes Blood + Cools Blood + Regulates Blood
SP-6: Resolves Dampness + Invigorates Blood + Yin
PC-3 + BL-40: Together can clear Blood Heat + Damp-Heat
Why can LI-15 treat the lower body?
According to the Meridian Theory, LI-15 meets with Yang MV, LU + BL sinew channels, LI Divergent, SI Luo-connecting channel
