Q

What are the etiologies + pathogenesis of multiple abscesses?

A

Zheng Qi is not able to eliminate the toxins –> toxins spread with the blood circulation
blocking the channels and collaterals–> stagnating Qi and blood abscesses

External Toxin Invasion:
Autogenous infection: Boil, carbuncle, furuncle, trauma infections at the open wound –> toxins transmission within the body

Summer –heat Summer-heat invasion to Ying & Wei

Blood stasis
Lochia, trauma –> blood stasis –> transforming into heat

Q

What are the 3 Stages S/sx of Multiple Abscesses?

A

Initial-
Muscle pain starting from the proximal of the limbs or torso such as
the arms, legs, lower back, chest, or back. There is swelling and
slightly burning sensation, but there is no skin color change. In 2-3
days, swelling and burning pain become more significant and the
swelling may be palpable. The accompany symptoms may include
high fever with severe chills which is paroxysmal, headache, joint
pain, poor appetite, etc.
Summer-heat multiple abscesses: Starting between summer
and autumn, stuffy chest, thirst with little desire for drink, T:
white-greasy coating, P: slippery-rapid
or Blood stasis: slightly fever, T: thin-greasy tongue coating with
petechiae, P: soggy-choppy

Suppuration Stage-
Increased swelling and pain, slightly red and soft in the center of the swelling in two weeks, fluctuating sensation with pressing, may
be accompanied by high fever that is not reducing, constant sweating, white blisters on the chest, thirst with desire for drink,
T: yellow-greasy coating. P: surging-rapid. There may be petechia on the tongue for those who have blood stasis

After Rupture-
Yellow or white and thick pus or mixed with blood clots in people who had injuries. Swelling and pain are reducing, fever is reducing, After appetite is increasing. The wound heals in about 2 weeks. There may be recurrent if the fever does not recover
