Focusing on human achievement and potential–individualism. Consumerism and studying things like anatomy and history

Banks, Silk Road trade (sugar spice silk), and urban, non-feudal population where ideas/education spread

Italian Wars, Age of discovery, Counter-Reformation shuts down secular thought

French king Charles VIII tried to retake Naples, which was initially captured by Charles of Anjou, but kept retreating

Louis XII occupied Milan for a whiile
