they said it was an intervention of the pope and that there was no mention of them in the bible

they reluctantly accepted the religious settlement but called for further reforms to purify the church (least hot)

wanted to abolish bishops and for each church to be run by a committee of Presbyters (teachers or elders) elected by the people (middle kind)
what is a seperatist?
they wanted to break away from the church to be indipendent and run its own affairs AKA brownists (most hot)

what set off the vestiments controversy?
Matthew Parker issued a “book of advertisements” which laid down rules for conducting services and wearing vestiments. Many Puritan priests refused because they were similar to those worn by catholic priests.
what happened as a result of the vestments controversy?
37 priests were dissmissed from their jobs and no reforms were made
when were the proposals by Thomas Cartwright?

he called for a Presbyterian system of church government (run by teachers and elders) but this would have weakned the power of the queen

it criticised the queen for discussing marriage talks with the Duke of Anjou (a french roman catholic)

he was arrested, charged with seditious writing, scenetenced to have his right hand cut off and imprisoned for 18 months.

what were the marprelate tracts?
a series of anonymous pamphlets were published that attacked the church and the bishops. the authours were never identifies and lost the suppourt of the puritains as they contained offesive and sarcastic language whoch puritains do not stand for.
