The Pelvis Flashcards
what does the obturator internus do?
laterally rotates femur at the hip joint.
Differences between male and female pelvis
False pelvis - shallow in female, deep in male.
Pelvic inlet - oval in female, heart shaped in male due to indentation of promontory of the sacrum.
Pelvic cavity is roomier in female.
Distance between inlet and outlet is shorter in female.
Pelvic outlet is larger in the female compared to the male, this is because in the female the ischial tuberosities are everted.
Sacrum is shorter, wider, and flatter in the female.
Subpubic angle is rounded and wider in the female.
