The Forearm - muscles Flashcards
brachioradialis (posterior / radial group)
Ridge superior to lat. epicondyle on the humerus , lateral inter muscular septum to base of styloid process of radius
Inn ; Radial nerve (C05, C06)
Action ; elbow flexor
NB> Causes supination
Flexes elbow when arm is in pronation “reverse grip curls”. When elbow is pronated, the biceps brachii is NOT the flexor.
ext. carpi radialis longus (posterior / radial group)
from lower 1/3 of the lateral supracondylar ridge of humerus to dorsal surface of the base of the 2nd metacarpal bone.
Inn ; radial nerve (C06, C07)
Action; EXTENSION and abduction of the wrist
ext. carpi radialis brevis (posterior / radial group)
lateral epicondyle of the humerus to the dorsal base of the 3rd metacarpal bone
Inn ; radial nerve (C06, C07)
Action; EXTENSION and abduction of the wrist
extensor digitorum
?
extensor digiti minimi
?
extensor carpi ulnaris

Ventral muscles - superficial layer
Pronator teres Flexor digitorum superficialis Flexor carpi radialis Flexor carpi ulnaris Palmaris longus
Pronator teres
medial epicondyle and the coronoid process of ulna to pronator tuberosity of the radius (lateral surface of radius).
In.: Median nerve
Actions : pronates and flexes forearm
Flexor digitorum superficialis
(underneath the flexor carpi radialis & palmaris longus)
medial epicondyle, coronoid process, radial tuberosity> with split tendons to centre of the middle phalanges of fingers 2- 5. In.: Median nerve
Flexor carpi radialis
Medial epicondyle humerus to base of 2nd and 3rd metacarpals In.: Median nerve
Action - flexion and abduction of the hand
Flexor carpi ulnaris
medial epicondyle & olecranon of ulna to Pisiform (seismoid) bone, hook of the hamate, base of metacarpal V. Inn : Ulnar nerve (C8, Th1)
Palmaris longus
Medial epicondyle humerus to palmar aponeurosis, flexor retinaculum. In.: Median nerve
(just lateral to flexor carpi radialis)
Forearm FLEXOR compartment or Anterior compartment
