Nerves/ Innervations Flashcards
What are the roots of the median, radial and ulnar nerve respectively?
C5-T1, C5-T1, C8-T1
What does the median nerve innervate?
- Flexor muscles in anterior compartment of forearm,
(except flexor carpi ulnaris & part of flexor digitorum, profundus) - thenar muscles (palmar side) + lateral two lumbricals of the hand + 1/2 of 3rd lumbrical.
- nail bed of thumb, 1st finger, 2nd finger
- LOAF
L - lumbricals
O - opponens pollicis
A - abductor pollicis brevis
F - flexor pollicis brevis
What does the radial nerve innervate?
- Triceps brachii - medial, lateral, long head.
- majority of forearm extensors (posterior forearm component)
Muscles that radial nerve innervates
- Triceps
- Brachioradialis
- Anconeus
- Extensor carpi radialis longus
Deep Branch
- extensor carpi radialis brevis
- supinator
Posterior interosseous nerve
- extensor digitorum
- extensor digiti minimi
- extensor carpi ulnaris
- abductor pollicis longus
What does LOAF stand for?
lumbricals
opponens pollicis
abductor pollicis brevis
flexor pollicis brevis
Anterior abdominal wall innervation
T7-T12 to all three anterior muscles,
L1 to oblique muscles as well
Posterior abdominal wall innervation
Mostly branches of lumbar plexus, (L1-L4) and subcostal nerve (Th12)
What nerves form the lumbar plexus?
The anterior roots of first four lumbar nerves (L1-L4) with contributions of the subcostal nerve (T12)
What lumbar nerves does the femoral nerve originate from?
L2-L4
What muscles are supplied by the dorsal scapular nerve? (3)
Levator scapulae
rhomboids major
rhomboids minor
What muscles are supplied by the Phrenic nerve?
Diaphragm
In the thorax, each phrenic nerve supplies the mediastinal pleura and pericardium.
What muscles are supplied by the suprascapular nerve?
supraspinatus muscle
infraspinatus muscle
What muscles are supplied by the subscapular nerve?
subscapularis
teres major
What muscles are supplied by thoracodorsal nerve?
Latissimus dorsi
What muscles are supplied by the axillary nerve?
deltoid muscle
teres minor muscle
