The Pancreas and the Anal Canal. Flashcards
What are the 2 lobes that form the pancreas?
The right lobe.
The left lobe.
How does the right lobe of the liver compare to the left lobe?
The right lobe is longer than the left lobe.
The right lobe of the pancreas is associated with what other organs?
The descending duodenum and the right kidney.
The left lobe of the pancreas is associated with what other organs?
The deep leaf of the greater omentum and the transverse colon.
What is the connecting peritoneum for the left lobe of the pancreas?
The greater omentum.
What is the connecting peritoneum for the right lobe of the pancreas?
The mesoduodenum.
What are the 2 major ducts that are associated with the exocrine portion of the pancreas?
The pancreatic duct.
The accessory pancreatic duct.
Where does the pancreatic duct open into the small intestine?
It accompanies the bile duct and opens into the duodenum via the major duodenal papilla.
Where does the accessory pancreatic duct open into the small intestine?
At the minor duodenal papilla.
Do all cats have an accessory pancreatic duct?
Only 20% of cats have an accessory pancreatic duct.
Those that do not have an accessory pancreatic duct will use the pancreatic duct for all of their secretions.
Will animals without an accessory pancreatic duct have a minor duodenal papilla?
No.
In the dog, will the pancreatic duct and the common bile duct join up with each other?
No, they open at the same papilla.
In the cat, will the pancreatic duct and the common bile duct join up with each other?
Yes, they will form a common tube just before it opens into the major duodenal papilla.
What is the most caudal section of the digestive system?
The anal canal.
What are the 2 sphincters that guard the anal passageway?
The internal anal sphincter.
The external anal sphincter.
