What is the largest gland in the body?
The liver.
How does blood from the digestive tract enter the liver?
Via the hepatic portal vein.
What accessory organ is found in the liver?
The gall bladder.
Where is the liver located in the abdomen?
Between the diaphragm and the stomach.
What side of the body is the liver found on?
It is mainly located on the right side of the body and it makes contact with the right kidney.
What lies between the left side of the liver and the diaphragm?
The fundus of the stomach.
What does the parietal surface of the liver make contact with?
With the body wall or diaphragm.
What does the visceral surface of the liver make contact with?
The stomach.
What are the 2 major borders of the liver?
The dorsal and ventral borders.
What are the 2 notches on the dorsal border of the liver?
The one on the left is for the passage of the oesophagus.
The one on the right is for the passage of the caudal vena cava.
What veins will drain blood from the liver into the caudal vena cava?
Hepatic veins.
What are the 3 ligaments that attach the liver to the body wall?
The coronary ligament.
The falciform ligament.
The right and left triangular ligament.
What is the falciform ligament?
A remnant that was used to support the umbilical vein in the developing foetus.
What is the role of the left and right triangular ligaments and the coronary ligament?
They attach the left and right lateral lobes of the liver to the diaphragm.
Where are the round ligament and falciform ligament located on the liver?
On the left side of the liver.
