Summary:
Telemachus is warmly welcomed when he arrives in Sparta
Menelaus reminisces about his and Odysseus’ adventures and Telemachus is moved to tears
The king and queen postpone serious talk to the morning, Menelaus is outraged at the situation in Ithaca and at the suitors behaviour
Menelaus then encourages telemachus to find Odysseus telling him that Odysseus is alive but being held captive by calypso on an island
The suitors have realised that telemachus has gone and plan to ambush his ship when he returns
Penelope is distraught after finding out her son is gone and the suitors plan on killing him but is soothed by Athena in a dream
