Summary:
A
Odysseus leaves circes island and they head towards the river styx and offer a sacrifice to summon Tiresias.
They go to the underworld and Odysseus’ mother anticleia appears, Tiresias gives him a prophecy. He sees a variety of female figures of importance.
Odysseus breaks his story and is given the expected fame by alcinous. He then sees a collection of great hero’s and a horde of the dead rise up and Odysseus and his men flee back to the ship.

A descent into the underworld is a common theme in mythology and an act commonly seen in heroic acts
This puts Odysseus on the same par of some of the other heroes he meets in hades.
