The nervous system Flashcards
What are the different parts of the nervous system.
brain, spinal cord, CNS, receptors and effectors
What picks up the stimuli?
The receptors.
What are the three different types of neurones?
Sensory neurones, relay neurones and motor neurones.
What does a sensory neurone do?
It carries electrical impulses from receptor cells to the CNS.
What does a relay neurone do?
It carries electrical impulses from sensory neurones to motor neurones.
What does a motor neurone do?
It carries electrical impulses from the CNS to effectors.
What are the steps in a nervous reaction?
Stimulus—> Receptor cells —> Sensory neurone —> Spinal cord —> Brain —> Spinal cord —> Motor Neurone —> Effector —> Response
How long does a nervous reaction take?
0.7 seconds
What are the steps in a reflex action?
Stimulus —> receptor cells —> Sensory neurone —> Spinal cord —> Motor neurone —> Effector —> Response
How long does a reflex action take?
0.2 seconds.
