The circulatory system Flashcards
What type of system is the cardiovascular system?
It is a double system.
How does the blood get pumped?
The blood(deoxygenated) gets pumped from the heart to the lungs, back to the heart( now oxygenated) and then gets pumped round the rest of the body.
What are the different parts of the heart and in what order does the blood flow through these structures?
Vena Cava—>right atrium—> right ventricle, left ventricle —>left atrium —> pulmonary artery —> pulmonary vein —> aorta
Tip to remember: VAVAVAVA
What structures carry deoxygenated blood and which structures carry oxygenated blood?
Most of the veins ( except the pulmonary vein) carry deoxygenated blood while. Most of the arteries carry oxygenated blood (except for the pulmonary artery). The vena cava, right atrium and right ventricle carry deoxygenated blood whilst the aorta, left atrium and left ventricle carry oxygenated blood.
