Blood glucose levels Flashcards
What happens after you eat a meal?
Your blood glucose levels would start to rise.
What organ responds to the rise in blood glucose levels?
The pancreas
What does the organ that responds to high blood glucose levels produce?
That organ produces insulin in response to the high blood glucose levels?
What do liver and muscle cells do with glucose.
Liver and muscle cells convert glucose into glycogen and store it.
What does removing glucose from the blood do?
It causes blood glucose levels to fall.
What organ responds when blood glucose levels are too low?
The pancreas.
What does the organ that responds to low blood glucose levels produce?
It produces glucagon.
What does the glucose stored in muscles and liver cells do when blood glucose levels are low?
The glucose starts to return to the blood.
What causes glycogen to change to glucose?
Glucagon
