Blood vessels Flashcards
1
Q
What are the three types of blood vessels?
A
Arteries, capillaries and veins.
2
Q
What are the features of an artery?
A
Arteries have thick walls as they carrying blood under high pressure. This results in them having a thin lumen(the gap in the middle). Arteries carry oxygenated blood.
3
Q
What are the features of a capillary?
A
A capillary is very small(one cell thick). This is for diffusion. Capillaries Carey both deoxygenated blood and oxygenated blood.
4
Q
What are the features of a vein?
A
Veins carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart. Therefore they have valves to reverse the flow of blood. They also have thin walls and a thick lumen as they are carrying blood under low pressure.
