What position must all pregnant paitnents post 20 weeks be transported in and why?
If supine- left lateral tilt to help aorto-caval compression/hypotension.
30 degrees tilt achived by proping right hip
If paitent requires spinal immobilisation 15 degree tilt of entire unit
What should o2 sats be maintained at for a maternity paitnet?
> 94%
Is the mother able to compensate well in preganacy?
yes, may lose up to 30-35% blood volume before showinf sings of shock/hypovolemai- fetus may be distressed while mother seems stable
What is prioritised mother or fetus>
Mother as ultimatly welfare of fetus is dependednt on it. If any doubt of application of guidleines consult PIPER
If there is risk of trauma to mother what should be done?
Obsetric assesmt]ent due to high chance of placental abruption associated with even minor injuires/trauma.
What should be assesed at the begining of a maternity paitents treatment?
Gestation, in labour?, baby delivered?, rupture of membranes? presenting part on veiw?
