Normal birth CPG- cutting of the chord

when should we cut the chord?

Answer 1

there is no rush- wait for chord to stop pulsating which commonly takes about 2 minutes. ideally cut before extrication

how do we cut the chord?

Answer 2

apply first clamp 10cm from foetus and second clamp an aditional 5cm from foetus and cut inbetween the two clamps

Question 3

can the chord remain not cut if the mother wishes?

Answer 3

for uncpmolicated birth they can be transported to hopsital still attached- consult with PIPER
