What is the Data Protection Act?
A
The Data Protection Act 1998 controls how personal information is used by businesses or the government. Data Must be used fairly and lawfully, used for limited specifically state purposes, as well as used in a way that is adequate, relevant and not excessive. Data also must be accurate, and no longer kept for longer than necessary, handled according to peoples data protection rights, kept safe and secure.

It protects your ethic background, political opinions and religious beliefs as well as health and sexual health and preferences, all criminal records (if you have one).
