What is the private sector?
Private sectors are services provided by businesses, which usually run for profit and the services are often paid for by the person who uses them. Examples are: Boots BUPA Virgin Healthcare Private sector doctors Examples of social care providers: Residential care homes Nursing homes Counselling services Some home-help services
What is the voluntary sector?
Non-profit making organisations which provide services alongside those provided by public and private organisations, usually charities with paid staff as well as volunteers. Examples of health care providers: Hospices Macmillan Cancer Support nurses Marie Curie nurses Marie Stopes Sexual health services Examples of social care providers: Age UK MIND Barnardo's The Children's Society Mencap
How does sexual health services support service users?
Sexual health services are provided by GPs, GUM clinics and young peoples services, (examples of primary care).
They provide advice about sexually transmitted infections (STIs), contraception,, pregnancy, sexual assault and abortion.
They provide contraceptives and medication.
They are free and available to everyone.
They target specific groups, e.g. those at high risk of infection or pregnancy.
How do Mencap support people with learning difficulties?
Mencap provides residential care for people with learning disabilities. It provides education services. it trains people to work with those who have a learning disability. It promotes awareness of learning disability. It challenges prejudice, discrimination and stigma.
