What is meant by regulation of professions?
Professionals who work in health and social care are regulated by external organisations to ensure they maintain high standards and provide safe care. The four agencies used in England also apply to Wales and Northern Ireland, Which also have an additional agency each.
What is the external organisation NMC?
The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) regulate nurses and midwifes in the UK by ensuring nurses and midwives have the right qualifications and skills. Also setting standards of practice and behavior and require nurses and midwives to challenge discrimination and review practice yearly.
What is the external organisation RCN?
The Royal College of Nursing (RNC) represent nurses, midwifes and health care assistants in the UK by: Setting out the principles of nursing practice, and nurses’ roles and responsibilities in safeguarding and ensuring accountability of practitioners, promoting continuing professional development (CPD) and supporting diversity in nursing.
What is the external organisation HCPC?
The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) protects the public by keeping a register of health and care professionals who meet their standards for training, professional skills, behaviour and health. It sets standards for health and care professionals in ethics and conduct, performance and efficiency, character and health, education and training.
What is the external organisation GMC?
The General Medical Council (GMC) is an independent organisation that helps protect patients and improve medical education and practice across the UK. IT decides which doctors are qualified to work here and oversees UK medical education and training, they also set standards that doctors need to follow and make sure that they continue to meet these standards throughout their careers, they take action to prevent doctors from putting the safety of patients, or the public’s confidence in doctors, at risk.
