What are Health public bodies?
NHS Foundation Trusts and GP services are public sector organisations which provide NHS services for adults and children. For example, Great Ormond Street Hospital in London is a part of the Great Ormond Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust.
What are social care public bodies?
Local Authorities (councils) are public sector organisations which provide social care services for adults and children: these include: Help in the home Support for carers Financial support Equipment to enhance independence
What does Commissioning of services mean?
It means planning service specification - eg. what services will consist of.
Agreeing service procurement -e.g. the process of obtaining the necessary services
Monitoring delivery- e.g. continuous quality assessment, checking that the service provided meet the needs of the service user.
An example of commissioning is where the NHS commission primary healthcare services that deal with a range of physical, psychological and social issues.
What is meant by Primary care ?
Primary health care provides the first point of contact, such as a GP, who gives access to day to day services for patients and refers them to relevant specialists where needed. other examples of primary care in the community include:
Dental practices
High street pharmacies
Optometrists
What do the NHS Foundation Trust do?
They run hospitals. They provide mental health services. They provide children's health services. They provide community health services. They work in partnerships with other organisations.
What do the local authorities do?
They commission organisations to provide social care services. These include daycare and domiciliary care (care in a persons home). They are commissioned organisations can be in the public, private or voluntary sector. They commissioned services for adult social care include residential care homes and nursing homes.
