What is meant by the CQC?
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the independent regulator of health and social care in England. There role is to register care providers, monitor, inspect and rate services, for example, NHS Trusts, independent hospitals, GP practices and residential care settings as well as nursing homes. They take action, including legal action, to protect service users, they are an independent voice, publishing regional and national views of quality issues in health and social care.
What happens in a CQC inspection?
The CQC asks five questions of each service it inspects?
Is it safe? the service should protect service users from harm.
Is it effective? There should be evidence of good outcomes and quality of life.
Is it caring? It should treat everyone with dignity and respect.
Is It responsive to peoples needs? Care should be of high quality, based on individual needs.
Is it well led? The service should be organised to meet needs.
What is meant by NICE?
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) provide national guidance and advice to improve health and social care, its role is to produce evidence based guidance advice for service providers, develop quality standards and performance measurements for organisations which provide and commission health, public health and social care services as well as provide a range of information services.
What ways do NICE provide guidance?
NICE provide guidance about standards in care, it also advises on safety and effectiveness of medication, treatments and services. They cover conditions and diseases. e.g cancer, diabetes. Lifestyle and well-being e.g. sexual health. Population groups e.g prison population and offenders. Service delivery, organisation and staffing, e.g. patient experiences in adult NHS services. Settings, such as when patients move from hospitals to community care settings.
What is meant by children’s services and skills?
OSFTED, Office of Standards in Education are an independent, impartial public body that reports directly to Parliament. it is their role to achieve excellence by inspecting childcare, adoption and fostering agencies and initial teacher training. It publishes reports of its findings to help improve the quality and inform policy. It also regulates early years and children’s social care services, so they are suitable for children and vulnerable young people.
What is meant by Public Health England?
PHE, Public Health England are a government body that protects and improves England’s health and well-being. Its role is to work as part of regional and local health systems to reduce health inequalities and protect the health of people in England, share information and expertise to make improvements in the public’s health and carry out research.
