TCA Cycle- Lecture 9/17/21 Flashcards
Pyruvate dehydrogenase
Turns pyruvate to acetyl CoA giving off 2 NADH
Energy Product of TCA
~38 ATPs
Coenzymes of Pyruvate dehydrogenase
Thiamine, Lipoate, FAD, NAD+
Coenzyme A
Long complicated model, active chemically at thioester
Thiamine pyrophasphate
Coenzyme that participates in decarboxylation
Lipoate
Coenzyme of pyruvate dehydrogenase that gets reduced in reaction, needs FAD to oxidize it
FAD role in pyruvate dehydrogenase
Riboflavin, oxidizes Lipoate, gets oxidized by NAD+
Product inhibition of PDH
Acetyl CoA and NADH directly inhibit PDH, sign the cell is energetically good
Kinase inhibition of PDH
When PDH is phosphorylated, it is inactivated. PDH kinase activated by acetyl coA and NADH and inhibited by CoA, pyruvate and NAD+
PDH regulation by phosphatase
Phosphatase activates PDH, activated by Insulin and Ca2++
