Sympatholytics Flashcards
Phenoxybenzamine -receptor and uses?
Alpha antagonist used to treat urinary tension by relaxing the urethra sphincter and treats pheochromocytoma hypertension
Prazosin -receptor and uses?
Alpha-1 Antagonist causes muscle relaxation and vasodilation used to treat urinary retention
Beta blockers
Propanolol
atenolol
esmolol
Propanolol -receptor and uses?
Nonselective beta antagonist that causes bradycardia used to treat tachyarrhythmias, feline hyperthyroidism, and chocolate toxicosis
Atenolol -receptor and uses?
Selective beta-1 antagonist that does not cause bronchoconstriction
Esmolol -receptor and uses?
Selective beta-1 antagonist that is shorter acting then atenolol
Indirect acting sympatholytics
Alpha-methyl DOPA - blocks DOPA decarboxylase in the NE production pathway to reduce synthesis of NE
Reserpine- blocks NE uptake into vesicles - used for calming equines
Guanethidine- blocks NE release to treat hypertension
Direct acting Alpha antagonists
Phenoxybenzamine
prasozin
