Sustainability Flashcards
What are the plans for the minimum energy efficiency standards 2018?
By 2023 require a rating of E, C by 2027 and B in 2030. This will result in 150,000-pound fines if not achieved.
What is an EPC?
An energy performance certificate and reviews by an assessor on heat loss common energy systems and sustainable impact.
What is u-value?
A U-value determines how effective material is that heat loss looking at the thermal transmitters using fitness and conductivity for detailed information.
What is an ESG?
An ESG is an environmental social and governance which is a framework which reviews a company on sustainable and ethical standards through financial performance and operations.
Explain what you know about BREEAM?
It is a voluntary system for new buildings which looks at 9 environmental ratings including energy consumption, water use, transport links, waste management, health and well being. It has five grading systems which an assessor certifies. Early involvement is key.
What international legislation are you aware of to assist in a sustainable future?
Cop 26 is committing more ambitious targets through mitigating, adapting, financing and collaborating. United Nations have sustainable development goals for being accountable, collaboration and a whole building lifecycle outlook. The RICS sustainable report shows improvement in the right direction.
What legislation is relevant to property and the environment?
The building act 1984 has approved document L2b. The environment act 2021 reviewing air quality, water, biodiversity, and waste reduction.
Climate change Act 2008 which aims for a net zero by 2050.
Energy Efficiency Regulations 2015 - Enforces MEES
What is embodied energy?
Embodied energy is materials that you use from start to finish and calculates extracting, transporting and use of the material.
What are the possible sustainable technologies?
You have the option to use renewable energy, smart systems, waste management, active mechanisms which use or produce energy by design or passive which uses natural resources for energy.
What is the RICS doing to help?
They joined the built environment carbon database to calculate and support minimalizing embodied energy.
