Sudden death of an infant younger than age 1 year without identifiable cause.

- underlying abnormality

- babies sleeping on stomach or side
- viral respi / botulism infection
- overheating
- too soft sleeping surface with blankets or toys
- smoking mothers
- < 20 y/o mothers, no prenatal care
- premature / LBW
