study session chapter 1 Flashcards
define pyrolosis
Pyrolysis defined is the chemical decomposition of a solid material by heating. Pyrolysis often precedes combustion.
Vaporization defined is a physical process that changes a liquid into a gaseous state.
define heat?
Heat is kinetic energy transferred from a high-temperature substance to a low-temperature substance. Because heat is kinetic energy

Platinum 10 concept
In order to enhance the patients golden hour
This is being able to remove the patient from the vehicle / entanglement and be enroute to a Trauma Centre within 10 minutes of our arrival on scene
inner and outer circle
Size Up
Inner Circle - varies in diameter relative to the vehicle(s) involved. Factors that
influence the size of the inner circle are the number of patients, the degree of entrapment, number and size of vehicles, and other hazards. Always check for hazards underneath the car(s) & all around the vehicles. As a result
firefighters need to assess:
• Number and condition of vehicles
• Number of Patients
• Extrication needs
• Hazardous conditions (Wires, fuel, glass,
instability)
Topography and entrapment considerations:
Only essential rescuers/tools should be in the zone
Outer circle - measures 3m to 5m in diameter around the inner circle. Size may be influenced by topography and traffic hazards.
Rescuers should access the scene by doing a wide sweep around the scene. They look for:
• Hazards (chemicals, electrical, etc.)
• Victims (# of patients) - Some may walk away
• Other potential problems
• They can/should also ask questions of bystanders

vehicle movements
Pitch: Up-and-down movement of a vehicle around its lateral (or transverse) axis that causes the front portion to rise and fall in relation to its rear.
Roll: Motion of a vehicle from side-to-side while it rotates around its longitudinal axis. Yaw: Movement of a vehicle that twists or turns about its vertical axis and cause a vehicle’s front or rear to move left or right.
Vertical: Movement of a vehicle up or down in relation to the ground.
Horizontal: A forward or rearward movement on its longitudinal axis or moves horizontally along its lateral axis (i.e. the vehicle moves parallel to the surface it is on).

3 factors that influence the severity of injury hazard potential to energized electrical exposure?
strength of current
length of time exposed to current
path electricity takes to the ground
scanning priorities tic
scan the cieling
- temp variation and eleveation
scan the cente wof the room
- exits and openings
scan the floor
- looking for hazards and victims
scan behind as you progress to ensure nothing is missed
