Chapter 30 - Vehicle Stab & Ex Flashcards
Vehicle Stab and Ex - Safety Priorities?
Rescue Personnel Safety
- position responding unit to protect crew from the traffic
- Always wear full PPE
- Eye Protection
- Gloves
- Fire helmet
- Traffic Safety Vest
- Full duty gear
Scene Safety
- Hazard control (fluids, elect, weather, etc.)
- Have hand line at the ready
- Have fire extinguisher ready
- traffic control
- crowd control
- control of other agencies
- Police, EMS, Epcor, etc
Patient Safety
- Protect the patient from further harm by stabilizing scene and other vehicles involved
- Cover the patient as needed
- Someone should stay with patient, because of all the noise of extrication
- Being covered will only add to the stress of the patient. provide patient with comfort and perform a complete Primary survey
difference between rescue and extrication?
Rescue incidents
involve the removal and treatment of victims from situations involving natural elements, structural collapse, elevation differences, or any other situation not considered to be an extrication incident.
Extrication incidents
involve the removal and treatment of victims who are trapped by some type of man-made machinery or equipment. A slip of the hand during extrication can turn injuries into fatalities. For this reason, fire fighters must be trained and completely prepared for any and all possibilities when dealing with motor vehicle collisions
Inner and outer circle
Factors that influence the size of the inner circle are the number of patients, the degree of entrapment, number and size of vehicles, and other hazards
measures 3m to 5m in diameter around the inner circle. Size may be influenced by topography and traffic hazards
