- Stethoscope
- Folded blanket or pillow for splinting chest or and incision in appropriate
- PPE if indicated

1) Steady device with one hand and hold mouth piece with the other
2) instruct pt exhale normally
3) Place lips securely around mouth piece

4) Inhale slowly and deeply with out using nose
5) After max inhalation pt holds breath for 3 seconds
6) Check gauge

Step 8 pt is dizzy

7) remove mouth piece and exhale normally
8) take break, take a few normal breaths and resume
9) Use 5-10 times every 1-2 hours
How to clean mouthpiece
with water and shake to dry, remove PPE, wash hands
