L&B 2/Intraprocedure/Nursing Interventions Flashcards
Assess vital signs per agency protocol
If membranes are ruptured, how frequently?
q 1-2 hrs if membranes are ruptured
Assess FHR via EFM or spiral electrode
Prior to electrode placement? (2)
1) Membranes must be ruptured
2) Cervix must be dilated
Assess uterine contractions via palpation to assess (4)
1) Frequency
2) Duration
3) Intensity
4) Resting Tone
Resting Tone?
Tone of the uterine muscle in-between contractions
A prolonged contraction duration( >90 seconds) or too frequent contractions (more than five in a 10 min period) without sufficient time for uterine relaxation (less than 30 seconds) in-between can reduce blood flow tot he placenta.
Resting Tone: Dangers (4)
1) A prolonged contraction duration( >90 seconds) or
2) too frequent contractions (more than five in a 10 min period) without sufficient time for uterine relaxation (less than 30 seconds) in-between can reduce blood flow to the placenta.
3) Leading to fetal hypoxia and
4) Decrease FHR
(ATI 123)
1) Insert, solid, sterile, water-filled intrauterine pressure catheter to measure? (2)
1) Intrauterine pressure/ Contractions patterns displayed on monitors
2) Requires membranes to be ruptured and cervix to be sufficiently dilated
Vaginal Exam: To assess (5)
1) Performed digitally by qualified nurse
2) Cervical dilation
3) Effacement
4) Descent of the fetus/measured by fetal station in cm
5) Fetal position: Presenting part and lie
6) Membranes intact or ruptured
(ATI 123)
