Rh Incompatibility
Circumstance:
What happens?

A

Mother has Rh negative blood and baby/fetus has Rh positive blood.
Because mother is Rh negative her body will produce antibodies against the baby’s Rh positive blood. When these antibodies cross the placenta they will cause hemolytic rxn of baby’s RBC’s and baby will become jaundice

RhoGAM in the second trimester and again a few days after birth
Prevents development of antibodies against Rh positive blood
