1) What is it?

1) Cervical os is covered to some degree by placental attachment
2) Complete, incomplete, marginal ( attached in lower uterine segment but does not reach cervix os)

Placenta Previa: Risk Factors (5)
1) Previous placenta previa
2) Uterine scarring
3) Maternal age greater than 35 to 40
4) Multifetal gestation
5) Closely spaced pregnancies
Placenta Previa: s/s
1) Painless, bright red if during 2nd or 3rd trimester
2) Uterus, soft nontender, normal tone
3) Fundal height greater than expected
4) Fetal position, breech, oblique or transverse
5) FHR, VS all normal
6) DECREASE URINE OUTPUT maybe better indicator than blood loss
