Where is Abona D.O. and what styles of wines are produced here?
Abona is DO in the small semi-desert south of Tenerife Island in the Canary Islands.
Blanco, Tinto, Rosado, Vino de Licor, Vino Espumoso, Vino de Aguja Gasificado, and Vino de Dulce Clásicos are styles produced here.
What is Vino de Licor?
Spanish for Vin de Liqueur or a wine in which alcohol has been added to produce either a Mistela ( addition before fermentation), Vino Dulce Naturale (addition during), or Vino Generoso de Licor (after fermentation)
What is Vino de Aguja Gasificado?
Spanish term for semi-sparkling wine. Produced when must is allowed to ferment slightly before being transferred to a pressurized tank. Fermentation continues there and then wine is bottled under pressure. Wine is bottled with 1-2.5atm of pressure. Literally means “needle wine” and refers to the slight prickly sensation of the light effervescence.
