Sandy soil is dug away until the clay chão rija (clay) soils are reached.
The young vines are planted in the chão rija soils and slowly over time sand and fresh manure are added until the ground is leveled off. This is necessary so the vines take root.
Once the ground is level, the vines are considered ready for production.
