Meant the southern states had no right to secede

Fort Sumter was almost out of food
Needed supplies otherwise would have been abandoned
Supplying the garrison angered the southerners (saw it as an act of aggression)
General Pierre Beauregard demanded
The north immediately surrendered in the fort
Opened fire when they didn’t
33 hours later the fort surrendered
In response to Beauregard, Lincoln
Called for 75,000 volunteers to put down the rebellion
In response to Lincoln,
4 more states immediately seceded
