SOP Flashcards
SOP
Who is responsible for overseeing the execution of the daily flight scheduled, and who approves changes?
The SDO oversees the execution of the daily flight schedule, and when changes need to be made, they must be annotated on the master flight sked. The order of approvers is: CO, XO, OPS, and in the event none of them are present, the SDO.
SOP
What happens when making changes to a published flight schedule while conducting embarked detachment operations?
The changes shall be approved by the ship’s CO and the Det OIC

Currency Requirements
LSO
All pilots/LSOs shall complete the LSO qualification with a current LSO. For embarked detachments, qualified LSO shall be designated in writing by the Ship’s CO for deployment. When acting as LSO for a short duration exercise (DLQ, ISATT), the LSO does not need to be designated, but shall brief the CO or OOD prior to commencing DLQ operations.
SOP
Crew Currency
DLQ Currency
Pilots whose night DLQ currency laspes while at the parent squadron’s home base shall conduct an OFT or night FDLP within 30 days of scheduled DLQ requal periods. During DLQ or FDLP pilots shall complete no fewer than 3 (takeoff, downwind, approach, landing) emphasizing comms and CRM. When practical these events should be conducted with the same crew expected to participate in the scheduled DLQ requalification flight. If the currency of all pilots within the squadron or detachment lapses while deployed, the CO shall attempt to regain currency through use of a H-60 series current HAC from another unit. If the operational situation precludes compliance a waiver to the unit’s Major Command ISIC shall be submitted and a deliberate risk mitigated approach shall be employed to allow non-current HACs to regain currency
SOP
Currency Requirements
OIC Change
If dets experience an OIC change, Ship Change of Command, reassignement to a new ship, or more than 60 days elapse btwn embarked ops, the det shall conduct the following embarked training evolution to reestablish readiness before resuming operations and/or continuing work up schedule . It is not required to have an ISATT observer present during this warm-up period:
a) D- Day and night landing requals
b) E- emergency flight quarters
c) C- crash on deck drill
d) S- straightening and traversin evolutions
E) H- Hot refueling
f) E- ELVA/smoke light approach
g) P- lost plane homing
SOP
What are the pre-embarkation proficiency rq’s
to the max extent practicable, pilots should fly a min of 9 hrs w/i 45 days proceeding fly-on for an underway.
Pilots shall obtain night currency (2 hrs w/i 45 days) and inst currency (2 hrs w/i 60 days) prior to embarkation.
During intervals of 45 days or less btwn embarked ops, pilots should fly a min of 6 hrs and achieve night and inst currency prior to the start of the next embarkation
SOP
Pilots returning from extended deployments over 90 days _______.
Shall pass a HSM 48 SOP exam and should complete an EP simulator
SOP
Restricted Areas/Warning Areas
Rhino Farm
Jax Zoo
(North bank of St. John’s River for noise abatement)
Numerous warning areas to the east
Restricted areas to the south by pine castle
SOP
What are additional requirements for checklists?
1 ) If STAB AUTO MODE PBS is not illuminated when AC pwr is applied, Stab lockpins shall be visually checked prior to flight
2) Rescue Hoist Op Check should be completed on the first flight of the day to ensure SAR capability
3) Siingle Eng airspeed and stab programming shall be called on the first takeoff of each flight and stab programming shall be called after reengaging the Auto mode subsequent to simulated or actual fail
4) the landing check shall be accomplished when transitioning from pad to runway operations or vice versa
5) In-flight mission Change checklist. Aircrew shall utilize the In-Flight Mission change checklist found in the sop any time the mission is altered from what was briefed.
SOP
All checklists shall be __-___-___up to ___ __. After that checklists shall be in the ___-___ format. When may checklists be done silently, and by whom?
Challenge-reply-reply, rotor engagement. Challenge-reply.
Checklists may be done silently by the PNAC when necessary to not interfere with other cockpit duties and safety of flight is a consideration with the exception of items that require a response by another crew member.
SOP
Pax/Orientation Indoc Flights:
References A through D provide guidance on the embarkation of passengers and minimum crew requirements. Simulated EPS, Practice Autos, intentional aircraft degradations, and ordnance release shall not be performed with passengers embarked or during indoc flights (to include midshipman fam flights). Per reference A, squadron CO’s may waive the NASTP requirements for oriented day overwater flights. This authority extends to flights with mission specialists (photographers for official tasking, spotters for NSFS missions, etc) as well as judicious use of airborne flights for reenlistments and orientation flights for ship or detachment members in these cases:
- The OIC shall generate a plan to minimize the risks ( taking into consideration the sea state, water temp, flight duration, Go/No go criteria, etc). CO permission is required for any non-passenger transfer of personnel
- Approval from the squadron CO shall be obtained in advance and documented using enclosure 4 which shall be signed in advance by the orientee acknowledging the risks

SOP
Hot Refueling/Crew Switch Procedures
Passengers shall not occupy the aircraft during hot refueling evolutions. Aircrew shall assist in monitoring hot refueling evolutions. During crew switches, the helicopter shall be under the control of a designated helo pilot and there shall be a verbal PIC to PIC turnover. The new crew shall begin with step 9 of Post engagement Checks.

Ship-Ship= 150NM
Ship-Shore= 200NM
The standard shipboard radius of action is 150NM
SOP
Detachment Concurrent Operations
Detachments operating on single spot ships with two manned embarked helos utilizing Recovery securing device shall not conduct concurrent flight ops unless an emergency landing site (ship or shore) is available within 50 NM for the duration of the evolution.
The 50 NM alternate landing site requirement applies to missions where the parent ship is the intended landing point for both aircraft, and does not apply to missions scheduled for the termination at other than the parent ship, fly-on for scheduled embarkations (thorough prior mission planning shall be conducted and no-go criteria determined which takes into consideration potential flight deck/hangaring delays)
This does not apply for concurrent manned/unmanned flight ops
SOP
When does the 50NM restriction for concurrent flight ops apply?
Missions where the parent ship is the intended point of landing for both aircraft.
