NATOPS Dipping Flashcards
Ch 2
The ALFS cable angle sensors measure the angular displacement of the cable from ________ relative to the aircraft orientation where latitude corresponds to _________ and longitude corresponds to the ________.
Center of the funnel
Roll direction
Pitch direction
Ch 2
While the dome is submerged, the AFCS maintains the cable perpendicular to the _______ while keeping the aircraft _______.
Water surface
In a steady hover
Ch 2
Each time the dome raising/lowering is _______ the cable angle signals are ___________.
This decoupling lasts for _______.
What does the decoupling do?
Stopped or started in the water
Decoupled from the AFCS by the RMIU
Approximately 9 seconds
Prevents erratic helicopter movement due to waves set in motion along the transducer cable as the dome starts/stops
Ch 2
While the dome is submerged, the display reverence’s the cable’s vertical a gable relative to the _______. What is this called?
However, the CABLE ANGLE AT LIMIT alert continues to be triggered based on what?
Surface of the water
Cable verticality
Cable’s position in the funnel
Ch 2
When the dome is not submerged, the cable angle display references the cable’s position relative to ________ and the CABLE ANGLE AT LIMIT alert _________.
The center of the funnel
Is suppressed
Ch 2
Tick marks and rings on the cable angle display
Tick marks: 2 deg per tick
Inner ring: 4.25 deg
Outer ring: 8.5 deg
Ch 2
Cable angle position is available only when _______.
the RMCU SEATED indicator is extinguished
Ch 2
Warning associated with 8.5 deg outer ring
If reached while dome is leaving the water, there is increased risk of the dome striking the aircraft and rotors which may result in injury/death
Ch 2
Caution associated with 4.25 deg ring
If exceeded as dome is leaving the water during raise operations, increased risk of dome striking the aircraft which may result in equipment damage.
Ch 2
If cable swing is excessive, the aircrewman should …
Stop raising the dome
CABLE ANGLE AT LIMIT
Cable angle has exceed 7.5 deg total deflection relative to the center of the funnel (can occur due to headwinds, crosswinds, currents, etc)
The CABLE ANGLE AT LIMIT alert displays independent of what and why?
Independent of the Cable Angle Display since the display presents dome drift by subtracting aircraft pitch and roll
Ch 2
Changing depth while the CABLE ANGLE AT LIMIT alert is present may cause…
Cable and/or funnel damage from contact friction
Ch 2
Cable angle mode defaults back to hover mode when?
When dome is raised through 27 +/- 12 ft of water depth provided override is not on
Ch 2
Cable angle LAT/LONG fail advisory
Failed axis reverts from cable angle hover to hover mode. The remaining axis is fully functional. Press to reset.
SUBM OVERRIDE
Provides override capability of the 27 +/- 12pm submerge requirement to engage cable angle hover mode
Ch 2
Conditions required for cable angle hover mode engagement
- Groundspeed of +/-5 knots
- Altitude hold w/ in 10’ of selected altitude
- Dome wet indication
Ch 2
When the AFCC decouples the cable angle sensors when raise/lower is stopped, what lights flash?
CALBE ANGLE-ON
ENGAGED light
Ch 2
LAT VEL and LONG VEL potentiometers on AFCS control panel in cable angle hover mode
Pots are inop in Cable Angle Hover mode
Ch 2
How to use submerge override
If cable angle hover mode fails to engage with dome submerged, press SUBM OVRD and then press CABLE ANGLE
Ch 2
If submerged override is selected, disengage cable angle hover as the dome is raised through ______ to prevent ______.
27 +/- 12pm water depth
Sever aircraft oscillations once dome breaks the water surface
NATIP: Alternative modes for raising the dome (First 2 numbers in the code and what mode is recommended for recovery)
- 10XX and 20XX– Run BIT. No recovery mode recommended
- 11XX and 21XX– SAFETY OVRD for 4 seconds until OVERRIDE light illuminates and follow normal hyd recovery procedures.
- 12XX and 22XX– Use AUX Electrical mode
- 13XX and 23XX– Use AUX HYD mode
All RMCU issued error codes begin with a 1 or 2. 1 indicates issued by the RMIU. 2 indicates issued by the RMCU
