Chap 7

Why should you always maintain control of the Hyd’s Bay Cover?

A

In winds over 10 knots or nearby jet blast/rotor wash, the hydraulics bay cover can be blown off when in transit or in the open position and may cause loss of the bay cover and/or cause personnel injury

What happens if you have an improperly installed LDS roll pin?

A

Improper installation of the LDS roll pin may result in an engine overspeed. Proper installation is indicated by the LDS roll pin protruding from both sides of the LDS control cable rod and the collective bias tube with the safety wire intact.

Chap 7

What should you not do if the APU Shutdowns on Start up?

A

Donot cycle the BATT switch or turn off the APU CTRL switch if the APU shuts down during start or after it is running. This removes the cause of the shutdown from the APU BITE indicator.

Chap 7

What do you inspect if you do not have a Flight light?

A

If the PYLON FLIGHT light is not illuminated, the pylon and stabilator lockpins and the tail rotor indexer shall be visually inspected prior to flight. Failure to do so may cause separation of the tail pylon.

Chap 7

What can happen if you leave the Blade Fold Switch in Spread for longer than 5-7 seconds?

A

With a malfunctioning microswitch or blade fold logic module, keeping the BLADEFOLD switch in SPREAD longer than 5 to 7 seconds may cause the blade fold lockpins to fully retract, resulting in an uncommanded blade fold and possible damage to the aircraft.

Chap 7

What should you do if on external power and mission power is on prior to turning on the Backup pump? This is only for specific DDGs

A

On ships without 400 Hz Aircraft Electrical Servicing System (AESS) Power Converters installed (Currently DDG 79 to 84, 86, 91,93,95): If the backup pump must be secured, mission power must be secured prior to turning the backup pump back on to avoid damaging ship electrical service system current limiters.

When is the hover caret displayed, and when can it be controlled?

A

The hover altitude caret is not displayed until mission computer has taken control.

The hover altitude caret will not respond on both FDs until the primary mission computer is in control.

Q

NATOPS

Chap 7

What are you looking for in the RADALT test?

A

Successful test indicated by RAD ALT tone (5 ±1 beeps), indicator reading 100 ±10 feet for approximately 5 seconds, and yellow tape illuminated up to DH setting or 100 feet, whichever is lower.

17
Q

NATOPS

Chap 7

What are you lookin for on the TACAN test?

A

Successful test indicated by BRG 1 needle swinging to 180° (±3°) for 5 seconds, DME indication of 0.0 nm (±0.5 nm), NAV needle centering (within 1/2 dot), and a TO (if course of 180 selected)/FROM (if course of 000 selected) indication.

18
Q

NATOPS

Chap 7

When is ratcheting allowed and not allowed on the Pri Servo test?

A

With the collective in the full up position and the cyclic at the forward left corner of its movement envelope, a ratcheting may be felt through the cyclic and airframe and heard in the cockpit as the cyclic is moved to the right. This normal ratcheting of the swashplate uniball bearing on the star guide assembly will only occur at the specific flight control orientation and movement listed above. Ratcheting or binding noted with flight control orientation at any other position or direction of movement must be assumed to be an unassociated control problem or deterioration of the Teflon coating on the uniball bearing.

19
Q

NATOPS

Chap 7

What check must the STAB pass before flying?

A

Helicopter shall not be flown if the stabilator fails any check involving manual operation, position indications, or warnings.

20
Q

NATOPS

Chap 7

What can you do if STAB AUTO mode fails?

A

If auto modefailstoengage, slewing the stabilator full up then full down with ac power may align the stab actuators and allow stab auto mode to reengage.

21
Q

NATOPS

Chap 7

What is a concern with Rotor Brake Start procedures

A

Np shaft rub occurs due to asymmetric heating of the Np shaft by a hot engine. When the rotor brake is released, the Np shaft impacts the Ng shaft causing compressor blades to impact the casing. Over time, this will result in engine power loss and possible catastrophic failure.

22
Q

NATOPS

Chap 7

When pressing the starter, how long should you hold the button down? When does Ng start to indicate?

A

Failure to depress and hold the starter button until Ng indicates may result in a failure of the starter to fully latch. Although Ng does not indicate below 6 percent, the engine accessory drive gears may still be in motion. Reengagement of the starter in this condition will cause excessive strain on the starter and may lead to the failure of the starter spline shaft.

23
Q

NATOPS

Chap 7

When shall you not do the Eng over speed test, and what shall you not do if the CB is out?

A

Engine overspeed check shall not be performed in flight. Possibility of flameout exists on the engine being checked. Additionally, a popped No. 1 and/or No. 2 ENG OVSP circuit breaker shall not be reset in flight. Resetting the circuit breaker may initiate an engine overspeed signal and result in engine flameout.

24
Q

NATOPS

Chap 7

What do you do if the ENG OVRSPD test fails the first time?

A

Failure of an engine to automatically relight when both OVSP TEST A and B are pressed simultaneously is possible. The engine should be restarted using normal procedures and the check should be performed again. If the engine automatically relights on the second attempt, the engine is acceptable. If the engine fails the test twice consecutively, maintenance action is required.

25
Q

NATOPS

Chap 7

What is wrong with the A/C if there is a rapid rise in TGT when C-Power is selected

A

Upon selecting CONTGCY PWR, a rapid change in TGT may be indicative of an engine control system malfunction.

26
Q

NATOPS

Chap 7

When shutting down an engine, what is the time and Ng limit you are looking for prior to moving the PCL? When can you restart the eng?

A

Engines should be cooled for 2 minutes at an Ng of 90 percent or less before moving PCL to OFF. If an engine is shut down without being cooled, it should not be restarted for 4 hours unless restart is performed within 5 minutes.

27
Q

NATOPS

Chap 7

What is considered an internal engine fire?

A

If TGT rises above 540 ºC, perform Internal Engine Fire emergency procedure.
