Involves shifting weights to increase the strength of muscle using a programme of exercise (muscular strength, muscular endurance)
What are the advantages and disadvantages of interval training?
Advantages - improves both anaerobic and aerobic fitness - includes rest period Disadvantages - very exhausting - requires a lot of commitment
What are the advantages and disadvantages of continuous training?
Advantages - easy to do, as it requires nit specialist equipment - not expensive Disadvantages - can be very boring - doesn't improve aerobic fitness
What are the advantages and disadvantages of Fartlek training?
Advantages
- very adaptable
- can be done in a variety of terrains
Disadvantages
- lacks structure, so hard to track progress
- there may not be suitable terrain nearby
What are the advantages and disadvantages of circuit training?
Advantages - very easy ti meet individual needs - variety makes it more interesting Disadvantages - takes a lot of time to set up - requires a lot of equipment, that might be expensive
What are the advantages and disadvantages of plyometrics?
Advantages
- the only type of training that directly improves power
- very specific
Disadvantages
- very demanding on the body, ned to be very fit
- need knowledge of event of sport
What are the advantages and disadvantages of weight training?
Advantages
- easier to monitor progress and overload

- if technique is poor can be very dangerous
- puts muscles under high stress levels, so they will get sore
What factors should you consider when choosing a training method ?
1) the requirements of the sport
2) facilities in local area
3) the individuals current level of fitness
