SOC 26: Skill, Practice, Guidance And Feedback Flashcards
What are the classifications of skills?
Open (always changing) vs. Closed (stable, predictable)
Simple (easy, low concentration) vs. Complex (hard, high concentration)
Low organisation (clear, simple phases) vs. High organisation (complicated phases)
What are the different practice structures?
Massed – learned without a break
Distributed – learned in sessions
Fixed – practised in a single situation
Variable – practised in different situations
What are the different types of guidance, and what are their pros and cons?
Visual – Easy to understand but harder to show difficult skills.
Verbal – Can be hard to understand but important for harder skills.
Manual/Mechanical – Gives a ‘feel’ for movement but not always practical.
What are the different types of feedback, and what are their pros and cons?
Intrinsic – Comes from yourself; requires knowledge.
Extrinsic – Comes from others; requires their expertise.
Concurrent – Given at the time, so it helps immediately.
Terminal – Given after the event, allowing for reflection.
Why are graphs useful in relation to feedback on performance?
They help interpret data and provide insights for improvement.
