SOC 19: The Short Term Effects Of Excersie Flashcards
What are the effects of exercise on muscles?
Muscle fatigue, lactic accumulation, and cramp.
What are the effects of exercise on the heart?
Increased heart rate, stroke volume, and cardiac output.
What are the effects of exercise on the respiratory system?
Increased need for oxygen and removal of CO2, along with increased rate and depth of breathing.
How does fitness level affect resting heart rate (RHR)?
Fitter athletes will have a lower RHR and quicker recovery rate.
What happens to oxygen usage during intense exercise?
You use up more oxygen than you take in, creating an oxygen debt.
What is muscle fatigue?
When muscles get tired.
What is lactate accumulation?
When lactic acid gathers in the muscles/blood due to increased work intensity.
What is heart rate?
A number of times the heart beats per minute.
Also referred to as BMP (beats per minute).
What is stroke volume?
The amount of blood pumped by the heart during each beat.
What is cardiac output?
The amount of blood ejected from your heart in one minute. CO = stroke volume (SV) x heart rate (HR).
What is oxygen debt?
The amount of oxygen needed at the end of physical activity to break down any lactic acid.
