What is massed practice ?
Good for basic skills , the skill is repeated continuously with little or no rest until the skill is developed
What is distributed practice ?
Good for new or complex skills, the skill is practised in a number of short sessions
What is fixed practice ?
Good for closed skills , the skill is repeated in a stable environment. It becomes habitual
What is variable practice ?
Good for open skills , the environment changes. Decisions have to be made quickly
What is visual guidance ?
Practical demonstrations , diagrams and other visual prompts are used to help the learner create a mental image of the skill that needs to be learned
