What is Anabolic Steroids?
Drugs that mimic the male sex hormone testosterone and promote bone and muscle growth
What are the benefits of Anabolic Steroids?
Used to enahnce performance , taken to increase muscle mass and develop bone growth, therefore increasing strength while at the same time allowing the athelte to train harder
What are the side effects of Anabolic Steroids?
Increased risk of muscle injury, increased risk of heart attacks and strokes, high blood pressure and even death.
What are Beta blockers?
Drugs that are used to control the heart rate and have a calming and relaxing effect.
What are the benefits of beta blockers?
Can help targets sports where steadiness and precision are required , becuase they reduce heart rate.
What are the side effects of beta blockers?
Nausea ( feeling sick), diarrhoea, tiredness,depression , insomnia ( cant sleep), and nightmares
What are Narctotics and analgesics
Narcotics : drugs that affect mood or behaviour , including drowsiness and relieving pain .
Analgesics:acting as pain relief
What are the benefits of Narcotics and analgesics?
These drugs act by depressing the central nervous system and give relief from painful injuries
What are the side effects of Narcotics and analgesics
Increase the risk of severe or long lasting injury. Loss of coordination, loss of balance, loss of concentration and emotional effects.
What are Diuretics
Drugs that elevate the rate of urine production
What are the benefits of Diuretics
This can help preformance who need to lose weight. Diuretics may also be used to reduce the concentration of any other banned substances .
What are the side effects of diuretics?
Dehydration, which can cause dizziness , muscle cramps , headaches and nausea
What are peptide hormones
Increase the rate of maturation of blood cells
What are benfits of raptide hormones ?
Increase muscle growth , increase in oxygen . Assist in recovery from injury and heavy training sessions
What are the side effects of peptide hormomes
Blood becomes thicker , which makes it more, difficult to pass through the small capillaries and increase the risk of heart attack pr stroker
What are Growth hormomes ?
Used to increase their muscles development ( very similar to steriods)
What are benefits of growth hormomes?
Increases muscle growth ( strength and size ) not as many side effects as steroids

What are benefits of stimulants
Increase alertness , enabling people to think more by stimulating the central nervous system
What are side effects of Stimulants ?
Insomnia, irregular/increased heart beat , high blood pressure and addiction .
Performance Enhancing Drugs
A substance that can be taken in a variety of ways to produce expected and welcome physical and/ or physiological effects.
Taking these drugs can increase the level of performance, but can also cause some side effects that are unpleasant.
