SOC 15: The Structure of The Heart Flashcards
What is the Cardio-respiratory system?
The interaction of the heart and lungs to supply oxygen to muscles during exercise
What is the defintion of cardiovascular?
Cardio is to do with the heart and vascular is to do with the blood and blood vessels
What is vasodilation?
When veins swell up or dilate ;widening of the internal diameter (lumen) of the blood vessel to allow increased blood flow
What is vascular shunting?
Process that increases blood flow to active area during exercise by diverting blood away from inactive areas ;achieved by vasodilation amd vasoconstriction .
What is vasoconstriction?
When veins shrink down ; narrowing of the internal diameter (lumen) of the blood vessel to decrease blood flow .
What is the heart ?
An organ
What is the top left chamber called ?
Right atrium
What does the blood enter to get in to the heart after it has supplied oxygen to the working muscles ?
Vena cava
What is the top right chamber of the heart ?
Left atrium
What is the bottom right chamber of the heart?
Left ventricle
What is the bottom left chamber of the heart ?
Right ventricle
What is the valve on the left side of the heart ?
Tricuspid valve
What is the valve on the right side of the heart ?
Bicuspid valve
What are the name of the two valves in the top middle of the heart ?
Semilunar valve
What is at the bottom of the heart?
Septum
