SOC 21 : Planes And Axis of Movement Flashcards
What are planes ?
Planes are the theoretical divisions that divide the human body into sections . There are three planes of motion in the body
What is a sagittal plane ?
An imaginary line dividing the body vertically into left and right sides
What is a Frontal plane ?
An imaginary line dividing the body from front to back
What is a transverse plane ?
An imaginary line dividing the body horizontally from top to bottom
What are Axis ?
An imaginary straight line around which something turns
What is a frontal axis ?
An imaginary lime passing horizontally through the body from left to right , allows flexion and extension
What is a sagittal axis ?
An imaginary line passing horizontally through the body from front to back , allows adductioj and abduction
What is a vertical axis ?
An imaginary line passing vertically through the body ,allows rotation of the body , allows rotation of the body in an upright position
Example of a sagittal plane
Front somersault in gymnastics
Example of a frontal plane
Cartwheel in gymnastics
Example of a transverse plane
Rotating in the circle(only) when discus throwing
Types of movement at a sagittal plane
Flexion and extension
Types of movement at a frontal plane
Adduction and abduction
Types of movement at a transverse plane
Rotation
Axis ( in the body )
Our joints rotate around axis , and these axis allow movement to take place in one of these planes
