Soc 18 Flashcards
What is glucose?
This is a major energy source in the body used by most cells.
What is anaerobic respiration?
This is where your body cannot supply enough oxygen to your muscles while they participate in high intensity activities. Glucose —> (ATP) energy + Lactic acid
Aerobic respiration?
The process of releasing energy from glucose using oxygen
Aerobic exercise?
Working at a modertate intensity allowing the body time to utilise oxygen for energy production and to work for a continous period, e.g Long distance events
Lactic acid?
A colourless acid produced in muslces tissues and is a by-product of anaerobic respiration.
What are cramps?
They are painful involuntary contractions of the muscle usually caused by fatigue and dehydration
