SOC 17 : THE STRUCTURE OF THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM Flashcards
WHAT MAKES UP THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM
The lungs, the nose, the mouth, the throat, the windpipes, the vessels
Why do we need the respiratory system
- To get oxygen into the body.
- To remove carbon dioxide from the
body. - In sport or physical activity, the respiratory and
cardiovascular systems must work closely
together to keep the body supplied with oxygen.
WHAT IS VITAL CAPACITY
The greatest amount of air that can be pass into and out of the lungs by the most forceful inspiration and expiration
WHAT IS OXYGEN DEBT
The amount of oxygen needed at the end of a physical acivity to break down any lactic acid in aerobic exercises
HOW IS OXYGEN DEBT REPAID
Oxygen debt is repaid through deep, gasping breathes at the end of an activity as it enables lots of oyxgen as possible to be taken into the respiratory system while eliminating carbon dioxide
WHAT IS VO2 MAX
The volume of oxygen an athlete can consume while exercising at maximum capacity
